Last time we saw Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), he was riding away on a motorcycle after the Battle of New York. Then, he was a man with a clear mission that made sense to him. There are bad guys and they need to be taken out. Now, he’s got grayer areas to deal with. Unfortunately, gray is not in  his color scheme. Red, white, and blue, yes. Gray, no. That’s one of the things that makes Captain America: The Winter Soldier such a great film.

For those who viewed Captain America: The First Avenger as the weakest of Marvel’s Phase One movies, its sequel has proved itself to be the strongest of Marvel’s Phase Two (so far). It’s got a gripping plot, awesome action, fantastic dialogue, and such a wonderful cast with great chemistry on screen. Not only was it an exciting movie, but it had beautiful character development moments as well, and not just for Steve, but for Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson).

There are a few twists and turns, some expected and some unexpected. It also has a lot to say about our current political climate without being preachy. As usual, stay through the very end of the credits. As the credits began at the end of last night’s late night showing, a fifth of the audience got up and walked out, prompting me to say, “Do you not Marvel?”

Not-quite-long story short, I loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier and I hope you do too.
