In a couple of days, it’ll be a new year. That’s just a surreal thought. It’s always strange this time of year. You start to take stock of what you’ve done over the year in an effort to plan to make the upcoming a year a superior one. Even if the year was kind to you, there’s always the desire to one-up the good times in the year to come. Maybe that’s just a human thing.

The Past

For a moment there, I had every intention of doing some sort of lengthy retrospective where I’d talk about the past year followed by my plans for the upcoming one. Then I remembered that I’m not terribly fond of either reading or writing those sorts of pieces. On top of that, I’m still not feeling at my best. For those following along at home, I had to take some time off the site last week because I felt like complete and total crap. By this time last week, I had aches and chills. I spent Christmas with my family battling a fever. It was rough. Still, we’re mostly recovered and everything’s going to be fine.

I’m going to keep this brief: I’ve been doing a good job of keeping this site rolling this past year. I’ve also been consistently employed for over a year now. Sure, it’s still part time work and I wish I was making more money, but I like my job and the fact that it leaves me with plenty of time to play video games or work on Just Tegan. At the moment, I’m enjoying a bit of a vacation because it gets really slow around the year’s end at the office. While I’m not getting paid, I’m glad for the time off while I recover from whatever plague I came down with.

Sure, there are things I wish I’d done this year, but I’m not going to think about that too much. It’s my personal policy to avoid spending too much time thinking about what might have been. It’s one of those things that once you start, it’s hard to stop. Like eating a can of Pringles. Mmm. Pringles.

Right now, I’m relaxing and conducting a re-watch of “Justice League” and “Justice League:Unlimited.” When feeling like crud, I resort to my various comfort films and shows. This time around, I just went straight to the “Justice League.” It helped that it has one of my most favorite Christmas episodes ever. I was going to do a list of those last week, but I lacked the energy to do so. I’ll get to it in the future. Call this a hint of things to come.

It’s been a crazy week or so. On top of feeling like crap, my parents and I have been getting things prepared for an upcoming renovation. We’re finally getting rid of the dated wood paneling in our family room and replacing it with an actual wall. We’re also getting rid of some furniture that we’ve had for ages and ages. This has led to a lot of packing and some brief trips down Memory Lane. It’s always weird that cleaning or packing ends up with those side trips along the nostalgia circuit. I know I’m not the only one who goes through that same process.

The Future

I don’t have any grand plans at the moment outside of wanting to turn Just Tegan into an awesome sight. Also, I want to get through New Year’s Eve. My friends and I are throwing a party at my house. It’ll likely be a smaller affair than last year’s party, but you never can tell. Once I get through New Year’s Eve and the renovation, who knows what’s going to happen?

You do know that you can still donate to the Just Tegan cause at our Patreon page, right? There are all kinds of perks and goodies you can have so go and take a look. Be a part of the future of this website.

In my immediate future, I think I’m going to go to sleep soon. I’m still sleepy from being sick and I’ve got a lot of stuff to take care of this week. While I’m going to do my best to get things back to normal around here this week, I’m still going to take it easy.

Folks, please remember to wash your hands, get plenty of rest, and drink fluids. You don’t want what we had around here. Seriously. It’s no fun at all. Stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll be speaking with you again soon.
